I don’t know a thing about tripods so I wanted one that wouldn’t be a headache. After reading reviews of similarly priced tripods I decided on this model. It arrived just a few hours before my nieces baby shower and I was able to assemble it very easily and quickly and it did everything I would expect. The construction is sturdy and stable and I like the look. I love the quick release plate and I left it attached to the camera all day as I went back and forth from the tripod. I wanted a model with a level and I love that feature. I am sure there are a lot of great tripods in this price range for a novice but I am so happy that my very first tripod was a good choice for me. The carrying bag is a plus. I am very pleased with this purchase.

Going by several different names, this fluid head tripod system is definitely worth the price. The base is heavy enough to not lift up when you’re panning and tilting (even with one hand)… it’s built well. People say the head doesn’t have smooth enough panning, but to me, it’s the right resistance, because anything faster would make you ill if you’re watching a video or indie film. Panning should be slow. Anything else looks like crap unless it’s an action film or if you’re doing one of those whipping-back-and-forth shots between two people talking (a 1-camera conversation shot). Aside from that, I think the tilt and pan works great… and combined, it’s even better. I did a test right when I got the system with my Canon T2i and I was very, very happy with the quality.

It is made out of aluminum. Light enough to carry around the whole day yet still very sturdy. The aluminum ball head actually performs well. Once you’ve got the desired angle and lock it in place, the camera will stay on that angle until you release the lock unlike my 20 usd tripod. Im using a d80 with 18-270mm lens attached. That’s about 1.2kg weight. The tripod is rated by the manufacturer to handle up to 13 lbs of equipment. Other features are a quick release plate, 2 bubble levels ( one on the head and the other on the legs), user replaceable aluminum tripod head, a threaded weight hook and spiked feet. The tripod can also converted so you can take macro shots. The legs can be locked in position independent of one another.

On the good side, you are getting a ball head tripod, with legs that can be extended past their typical angle. They also have nice padding on them which is great in the Northern climates when you have to work without gloves. The tips of the legs can be rotated to reveal spikes for difficult terrain, and there’s two bubble levels: one on the legs of the tripod, and one on the actual ball head. There’s also a compass, if you need that utility. Even with all that, you still get a pretty nice carrying case.
